You can now use Magnet One to share WITNESS case files but the real BIG NEWS is the new audio features

Thank you to Kate Woolley at Magnet who provided the following on the FVA listserve.

Witness support for audio is evolving with the introduction in 1.7 and expansion through 1.8 and 1.9, which was just released on July 31st.

DVR Audio Acquisition

• Audio is currently supported for recovery on the following filesystems: DHFS_41, HIK, HIK_SQL, ASJS, RSFS

• Audio support is indicated with filesystem information after detection and when looking at source details.

• Audio supported filesystems will export audio in native and open format. That is to say, open format exports will playback audio if it is present.

In instances where audio is unsupported for open format exports from a scan, audio may be present on the native exports. It never hurts to verify.

Cloud Audio Acquisition

• Audio is currently supported for recovery from the following cloud-based camera systems: Ring, Arlo & Blink

• Audio remains unsupported for recovery from Wyze cameras (but we continue to work on this). To reliably recover audio from Wyze, you must use the Wyze app as Wyze has a known issues via browser. Audio may also be present on local storage media.

• Please note there are no Cloud acquisition capabilities in DVR Examiner

Audio Playback

• If present, audio can be played back in Witness for open file formats (MP4, MOV, Open AVI, MKV) and supported filesystems (as noted above).

• Please note there are no audio playback capabilities in DVR Examiner

Magnet One platform integration

(You can select AWS eu-west2 (which is London) as the storage destination)

• Magnet One users can now sign in to create & share Magnet Witness cases with the Magnet One platform.

• Magnet Witness cases created and shared with the Magnet One platform send messages to Magnet One for key events, such as when an item is created, when an item has started scanning or when a scan has completed.

UPDATE or UPGRADE

If you are a current WITNESS user, please update to Version 1.9.0 to start taking advantage of these new features. If you are still a DVR Examiner user but you would like to upgrade to WITNESS please get in touch with me for your options. We can also supply a trial of WITNESS for you to review.
